Minerals

Naturally Formed -Formed though processes within the earth itself. These processes are precipitation for a solid to a liquid, volcanic eruptions, and weathering of pre-existing materials. Synthetic materials are not considered by scientist to be true materials.

Solid -Minerals shape is not constantly changing like a gas or liquid.

Inorganic processes -Material formed though organic processes are not minerals. Fossils are considered minerals because their tissue was replaced by inorganic processes after they were buried.

Chemical composition -Every mineral has its own composition. Some minerals consist of multiple atoms while others only consist of one. Minerals contain varied impurities.

Characteristic Crystal Structure -Minerals internal and external appearance is determined by its arrangement of atoms. Crystals characteristics are determined in the same way.
